SHRM Podcast Interview

Culturally Competent Feedback is Important!

Hey Ya’ll,

I know this is supposed to be a bi-weekly newsletter, but I'm currently on a social media cleanse, and I just couldn't wait to share my recent podcast interview with SHRM’s ‘All Things Work’. It's officially out, and I wanted to give you early access to it! I specialize in teaching leaders how to give and receive feedback in a culturally competent manner, and this interview allows me to live in my expertise. Just to explain the magnitude, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world’s largest human resources professional society; so I’m super stoked!

I'd really appreciate it if you could take some time to listen and share your thoughts with me. Did anything in the interview resonate with you or spark any self-reflection? I'm eager to hear your feedback!

REVELATION:

The podcast covered a lot of ground, but one of my favorite moments was when we discussed how fear can hinder effective communication, especially when it comes to helping someone improve their performance. Often, the focus shifts to "I"—how uncomfortable or nervous I feel—instead of centering on what needs to be said to genuinely support that person's growth. It’s about moving away from self-centered fear and asking, "What do I need to say to help them?"

REFLECTION:

Today I am asking you for your revelation. What resonated the most?

  1. What did I learn from the conversation that challenged or expanded my perspective?

  2. How do the themes discussed in the podcast relate to my role as a leader, professional, or community member?
