Listen for the Lesson
The Key is Coachability
Hey Ya’ll,
It’s been an incredible week thus far! It started with speaking on Inclusive Leadership and will end with building a feedback-based culture. It's exciting to see organizations still wanting to do the work!
I'm always talking about giving feedback, but let's flip the proverbial script and chat about coachability! It's so important to be open to feedback without getting defensive. And remember, if the feedback isn't clear or actionable, don't be afraid to ask questions – it's all about getting the info you need to grow. After all, everyone deserves the chance to develop, and that starts with feedback! #equity
RESOURCE:
Why Being Coachable is the Key to Your Professional Success
REVELATION:
The writer emphasizes that being open to feedback and willing to learn are crucial for personal and professional growth. The article defines coachability as the ability to accept constructive criticism, adapt, and continuously improve. Below are several key points.
Embrace Feedback: Viewing feedback as an opportunity rather than criticism is essential.
Continuous Learning: A commitment to learning and self-improvement keeps professionals ahead.
Adaptability: Being open to change and willing to adjust strategies leads to better outcomes.
Remember, Listen for the lesson, and ask additional questions!
Speaking of additional questions, if the feedback is nonactionable, ask the below questions:
"What alternative approach do you think might work better?"
"Which aspect of my work do you think needs the most immediate attention?"
"What outcome would feel like progress to you?"
REFLECTION:
Journal about how you receive feedback and consider how to incrementally improve.
How do you typically react when someone offers constructive criticism?
Are you seeking feedback proactively, or do you only respond when it's given? Why?
Do you interrupt, justify, or defend yourself when receiving feedback? If so, why?
What can you do to improve with your listening when receiving feedback?
