How the Hell are Ya?
Post Election Check in
Hey Ya’ll!
Thanks again for reading That Inclusive Lens, my bi-weekly newsletter! How was your week? Okay, mine was incredible because I attended and spoke on the topic of Feedback at the SHRM Inclusion 24 conference in Denver, Colorado. But, I’d be remiss to not check on ya’ll, post election. I heard someone say “Regardless of who your candidate was, think about how the person on the other side is feeling; can you feel some level of empathy for them?” Her words made me pause and reflect. Below are some resources to help with that reflection.
RESOURCE:
Post Election Communications.
REVELATION:
Remember to manage your emotions before addressing the team. Understand your feelings, because communicators considering a post-election communication should be prepared for heightened emotions and various reactions to the outcome. Additionally, don’t forget to find common ground with the team by discussing your commitment to your company’s values and purpose.
REFLECTION:
What am I feeling about this election and why? (Then ask another layer of why to whatever answer you gave.)
With the new president, what is the best that can happen?
What can I control and how can I find joy in my controllables?
How am I practicing inclusion with those who are different than me politically?
