Favoritism Freaking Sucks

Spot it and prevent it

Hey Ya’ll,

How was your weekend? Mine was great! I had the honor of working on my craft by speaking on favoritism this weekend with my son in the audience. He got a chance to hear his mommy speak on stage and in his words “Mommy, I’m so proud of you! You did an outstanding job but next time start off by saying hi instead of jumping right into your speech” LOL! Gotta love that guy!

Also, I’m in Savannah this week for the Georgia Council for HR conference as the opening Keynote speaker! I’m excited and nervous at the same damn time! LOL!

Today, I want to further explore favoritism in the workplace because it’s one of the quickest ways to create a divisive and exclusive environment.

RESOURCE:
Favoritism in the Workplace: How To Spot and Prevent It

REVELATION:

Favoritism at work shows up when people get special treatment because of who they know instead of what they do. It may not always be illegal, but it wrecks trust, kills morale, and pushes good folks out the door. You’ll see it in shady promotions, uneven workloads, and little cliques running the show. The fix is simple but not easy: set clear policies, train leaders to check their bias, make decisions based on merit, and give people safe ways to speak up. Bottom line; connections are cool, but playing favorites destroys teams.

 REFLECTION:

  • Journal: How do I make sure everyone in my circle, whether kids, employees, or team members feels seen, valued, and treated with the same consistency?

Last thing …

I’m hosting another virtual workshop on Friday, 9/26 from 8p-9:30pm EST. Tickets are on sale right; hurry up and take advantage of the 2 for 1 offer.
